Godfrey is back! We’re at Walden Creek Trail. Last time we were here it was in the dead of winter and everything was covered in snow. Today, the weather is a little overcast and it’s about 60 degrees. Quite the perfect Spring day for hiking in North Georgia.
Godfrey is now dealing with arthritis in his front left shoulder. Some days it barely shows and other days it’s way more pronounced. Today is somewhere in the middle. Good enough to get him out here to test how he is without pushing it too far.
I’m deliberately sticking to easier trails for him because I’d like to see how he handles it. I don’t know how many of these hikes he has left, so there’s no point pretending otherwise or trying to make him do something he’s not physically capable of doing. He loves it out here and I’d like to keep it a positive experience.
Originally we were going to take a different trail. One that is a little more fun. It has water crossings as well as a waterfall. But about a mile or two from the trailhead we got turned around by a wildfire crew. Next time I’ll check the wildfire maps before heading out.
All in all we had a decent hike, albeit a little short, but one where I’ll be able to see if Godfrey can still hike.
