Contentment Falls to Train Trestle Trail – Toccoa, GA

I went back to Contentment Falls Trail, which links to the Trestle Trail in Toccoa, GA. The old starting point is now on private property, so the trail starts in a different location. It still feels like the same length and it’s an easy route to follow. The first stretch is basically a leaf-covered Forest Service road. I kept Godfrey on leash at first so he would not eat everything in sight or bother anyone else since there was another car at the trail head.

The weather was perfect for a fall hike. Cool air, leaves still on the trees, and one of those perfect fall Georgia blue skies. I took a couple of wrong turns because the trail is not well marked and there are a ton of side trails and roads. Keep tabs on the AllTrails map to keep on target.

I made it to Contentment Falls after hunting down the unmarked side trail. Getting to the bottom looked hard but was way easier than it looked. Godfrey decided he was scared to go all the way to the falls, which is odd. He has climbed much harder stuff, so I was surprised. I went as far as I could without stressing him out.

The Trestle Trail loop looked different from what I remembered. Might just be a factor of getting old! After a small water crossing we reached the train trestle. A train passed through, which was a surprise since I did not know the line was active.

The return trip to the Jeep was nothing special. It is just a Forest Service road covered in big rocks that make for uncomfortable footing. This is an easy, quiet trail with two worthwhile spots. The waterfall and the trestle make the whole loop worth the trip. A good choice if you want something simple that is not crowded.
